The Adobe Deli is located between Deming and Las Cruces in the Akela dessert and the building that now houses the Adobe Deli was actually the old Lewis Flats schoolhouse. In 1978 the building went up for auction, and the now owner Van Jacobsen, bought the building. Van was the owner and operator of two successful delicatessens in Long Island, so Van has the experience and the knowledge to run a kitchen and serve good food. The Adobe Deli was named in part for its adobe-made bar and for the delis Van and Vicki first started. The old classrooms that once made up the schoolhouse are now a kitchen, a storage area for dishes, and what was the school office is now also used for food storage. The janitor’s closet has been converted to a wine cellar, home to an impressive wine list that boasts nearly 100 varieties. The old gymnasium or multipurpose room now makes up the dining room and bar. Adobe deli has a giant theatre sized screen for watching all the best sporting events. Their dinner menu is home to some of the biggest best steaks in the region. The 20oz. Ribeye that is 1” thick just melts in your mouth. The tender steak is served with a baked potato and vegetables. Adobe deli also serves Osso Buco, Lobster tail and Oysters on the half shell. Adobe Deli is well worth the trip to enjoy a delicious hand cut steak.
